Wellesley Hospital are currently taking on a new fitness challenge called the ‘Formula Cardio Championship’ which follows the F1 calendar and awards points to participants based on how fast they complete each round. This challenge started in October and will run up until mid-December, and consists of cycling, walking, running or using the cross trainer to cover an average of 4- 6 kilometres per week (2.5 to 4 miles). In October the first 2 events of the 6 rounds took place.
This fun fitness challenge has encouraged some new members to the on-site gym, with an interest in weight training and classes. Wellesley has a fitness team who are welcoming service users to talk to them if they are interested in using the gym to encourage them and calm any nerves they may have. Regular exercise has been proven to help lower the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes by up to 50% as well as improve mental health and wellbeing, so the team are really keen to encourage as many service users to participate as they can.
One service user said “I am very proud of myself for managing to get to the gym once a week this month. I will keep trying and see if I can improve on it even further”.
All the points will be added up at the end of the year to determine the overall Championship winner – watch this space!
