Drug misuse disorder or substance misuse disorder is common and effects people from all backgrounds. It is a complex condition and can lead to addiction when repeated use of drugs leads to brain changes creating intense cravings and the person will have not regard to the consequences of their drug taking.
People with drug misuse disorders can become psychologically and or physically addicted to drugs. Drug misuse disorder has noticeable signs and symptoms, these may be physical and behavioural with serious long term consequences.
We also recognise and treat addiction to prescribed medications.

You may be offered treatment within the community at home or you may require a hospital stay.
For severe drug addiction it may be advised that the person attends a residential rehabilitation.
