Meet the Bromley Road Psychiatry & Psychology team

Bromley Road is a specialist rehabilitation service for men and women with a mental illness and a history of substance misuse and/or trauma. The service provides a high level of therapeutic care and the recovery pathways are developed in partnership with our service users to promote maximum engagement and hope. The site is situated in Catford, London and has excellent transport links, along with access to local libraries, theatres, shopping centres and recovery colleges.

 

We would like to introduce some of our team below;

 

Gunnen Ghosh – Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr Ghosh has been a consultant psychiatrist at Bromley Road since 2003, and also holds a post in the NHS as a Liaison Psychiatrist in Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust. He has also previously held posts at Green Park House and the Bracton Centre.

Dr Ghosh graduated from London University in 1990 and undertook general psychiatric training at Guys & St Thomas’ in 2000. He has a longstanding academic interest in challenging behaviour and the care of individuals with Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenia, and has completed a Masters in mental health. Gunnen has been member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists since 1995, and between 2002 and 2013, he supported medical students as an RCPsyc Undergraduate Teaching Lead.

 

 

Dr Kenneth Fergusson – Associate Specialist

Dr Fergusson worked at Farmfield Hospital as Associate Specialist in Forensic Psychiatry between 2016-2019, and also spent time at the Langford Centre in 2019 before joining Bromley Road in November 2019.

He graduated from medical school in 2005, from The College of Medicine & Allied Health Science in Freetown, Sierra Leone, and started Core Training in Psychiatry in 2012 at the South West London & St Georges Hospital, finishing in 2016.

Ken has a wealth of experience derived from units he has worked in ranging from Forensic Psychiatry, General Adult Psychiatry, Old Age Psychiatry, Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Liaison Psychiatry, Psychiatry Intensive Care Unit, Early Intervention Services, and Learning/Intellectual disability unit. He has also had experience in the field of psychology, wherein he participated in psychodynamic psychotherapy, CBT and Family Therapy.

 

 

Joao Bernardo – Lead Clinical Psychologist

Joao Bernardo joined Bromley Road in March 2020 and has brought in a trauma focused approach towards understanding Psychosis which has helped improve outcomes for the service users.

João  qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2009, is chartered under the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). He has specialised in working with complex mental health presentations, psychosis and personality disorders.

He has led the development and delivery of Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) in mental health settings, and is experienced in a number of psychological interventions including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT) and Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy.
