The Woodhouse provides a pathway of learning disability and autism services for men and women set in a quiet, private setting and provides a range of small, bespoke units and cottages.

Located in Cheadle, Staffordshire, the town enjoys excellent facilities and amenities with a wide range of shops, cafes and a leisure centre. The area provides a more relaxed local environment to enable patients to engage in their therapeutic programme. The Woodhouse is centrally located and is only 75 minutes by car from Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and Nottingham.

 

 The Woodhouse offers:

  • Timely assessment, treatment and rehabilitation placements
  • Individualised and intensive packages of care through our High Intensity Service
  • Step down to community based services such as The Woodlands in Wolstanton (male only)

 

The service is specialist in providing care for the following groups, in separate and dedicated units:

  • Men and women with learning disabilities
  • Women with a dual diagnosis of personality disorder
  • Men and women with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Men with forensic histories, including sexual offending
  • Both men and women with highly complex and severe challenging behaviour through our High Intensity Service

 

Patients may come to the service from:

  • Acute or PICU settings, having been living in the community who due to crisis require a time limited period of treatment and rehabilitation to enable them to return back to their home environment
  • Other hospital or secure settings, requiring a period of specialist treatment in the least restrictive hospital setting where positive risk taking is enabled, before moving into the community

The Woodhouse benefits from an integrated team of Therapists and Activity professionals which means that there is a real emphasis on individually planned structured therapeutic and activity based work to enable people to be develop their independent living skills. All patients are assessed using the Model of Creative Ability (VDT) to ensure that their individual skills needs and learning styles are identified to inform the treatment approach.

The Woodhouse is supported by a regional team which includes; a Lead Nurse, Safeguarding Lead, and Senior Paramedic Physical Healthcare Lead.
