Hospitals and Care Homes are regulated in England by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), hospitals in Wales are regulated by the Healthcare Inspectorate Wales (HIW) and Care Homes in Wales are regulated by the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW). These are independent groups who visit and inspect services to make sure that they are meeting set standards. Following a visit, they produce a report which highlights what is working well and what services need to do to improve. This helpful process ensures that the quality of care improves all the time. The regulators will also talk with the people we support to hear their views on the care they receive.
