Elysium Healthcare’s Third Service User Conference

Elysium is proud to showcase the outstanding achievements and stories of service users from across our sites and each year hosts a collaborative conference.

This year’s conference was held on Wednesday 11th September 2019 at The Slate, Warwick University. The day was attended by 170 people from across our Mental Health Division and those in our Learning Disability and Autism hospitals, including staff and commissioners.

The theme for the event was “Healthy Lives”, and service users presented and made films about how to stay mentally and physically healthy using their own examples.

We heard an inspirational talk from an ex-patient about her journey and how far she has come, with the lesson not to expect perfection. This is an inspiring film and the presenter has given permission to share the film of her presentation with all our services. The film is complete with BSL interpretation so that everyone who could not attend the event can see it.

Chadwick Lodge provided the “Conference Crew” who welcomed attendees, handed out delegate packs and introduced each of the speakers. A special thank you to a service user from Cefn Carnau for hosting the mic for questions and keeping us to time by announcing when people were to make their way back to their seats.

Other presenters included service users from The Copse who talked about Mind Mapping a Diary, presenters from Chadwick Lodge who talked about LGBTQ+ and its link to wellbeing and Bradley Complex Care who presented on Mindfulness. The team from Aderyn also talked about how gardening helps improve mental health and shared a film they had made, and Arbury Court told us about their Sports Day. Sturt House showed a film about two service users and their fitness journey.

This was an inspirational event that was enjoyed by all who attended. We look forward to next year’s conference with volunteers already lining up to be a part of the day.
