12 days of Christmas at Aderyn

Our team at Aderyn rehabilitation service have held a 12 days of Christmas activity programme for service users and staff to get them all into the festive spirit. The 12 days of Christmas kicked off with some fantastic culinary focused sessions including shortbread Sundays where service users helped to prepare Christmas themed caramel short breads. Service users also had the opportunity to learn how to prepare milk and white chocolate truffles, which was led by the RC.

The week was filled with activities delivered by the team, including:

  • Create your own gingerbread houses
  • Decorating Aderyn’s conservatory into a Christmas grotto
  • Wreath making
  • Christmas card making
  • Festive bingo session

Aderyn safely facilitated the annual ward Christmas meal for staff and Service users at a local restaurant, and the week also included evening events such as:

  • A carol service facilitated by the Hospital Reverend with OT, Nursing and Service Users
  • Christmas cracker scavenger hunt (patients helped make the homemade crackers)
  • A session with service users preparing their own luxury hot chocolates
  • Christmas movie marathon.

Hot Chocolate

The week ended with a fantastic German themed Christmas market style event hosted on the veranda and in the grotto. The event’s food consisted of German Bratwurst and Frankfurter sausages, garlic mushrooms and potatoes, as well as chocolate filled crepes and cones of sweets that were handmade by the Head Chef. Service Users listened to Christmas music, enjoyed homemade non-alcoholic mulled wine and had a sing along. It was a fantastic atmosphere and a pleasure to be a part of.

The best thing about working at Aderyn is how every staff member will pull together to plan and deliver a variety of activities to ensure each service user has a unique experience at Christmas. We are mindful that this can be a tricky time of year so we are very focused on being as inclusive as we can be.

Below is some feedback from service users at Aderyn when they have reflected on the activities;

“I am so grateful for all of the staff. You really do give us the best Christmas”

“I loved the German Market event it was awesome”

The Aderyn team would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
